On topic ... though the conclusion is valid, the HMG should best an assault rifle on a medium frame at close range, you simply don't have any evidence in that picture to support it.
That damage number is known to not be accurate with the damage that lead to that specific death (unless this has been altered recently)
He was using a proto weapon on a proto suit, you were using an advanced weapon (apparently) and that's all we know ... for all we know he had stacked light damage mods and complex plates against your militia armour repairers and kincats (or whatever fail-fit) ... in that case the proto medium frame with proto weapon SHOULD best the fail-fit heavy (not saying yours was, but you don't provide enough information to judge).
There's also the factor that an assault rifle has bonus to armour (your primary tank) whereas the HMG has bonus to armour (not the caldari primary tank) ... on top of that if he was 100% head-shoting you and you were spraying his body, there's a vast bonus difference in effect too, on top of the weapon and dropsuit tier differences AND the potential differences in situational fitting.
Long story short ... there are too many variables to be able to say off one kill mail that this or that is OP or UP ... is the HMG UP ... is the AR OP ... is the Heavy suit UP ... is the Caldari Medium frame OP ... is the Shield Extender OP ... was his fit, strategy and ability better than yours ? YES, he won, but barely ! I don't doubt the next man killed him relatively quickly and I don't doubt his fitting was considerably more expensive than yours.
Yes the Heavy still needs looking at, as do scouts AND assaults, as well as survivability in general, even brick tanked logistics suits get torn to pieces in an instant by certain weapons, maybe armour/shield bonuses are too high, maybe headshot bonuses are too high, maybe aim assist is too strong, maybe it's a little of everything.
There are more heavy weapons coming, one of which should be an equivalent weapon with a shield bonus, like we have the AR and SCR, so maybe the HMG is right where it should be and would have bested an equivalent armour tanked suit, but to beat that higher spec shield tanked suit you would have been better fitted with a shield bonus CQC heavy weapon. |
